Classroom Curriculum

Teachers and school staff can request educational materials from the PTO. The following are items contributed by the PTO during previous school years.

Literacy
Books for leveled book room, balanced program, and writer workshops plus thesauruses, literacy games, and curriculum books.
Math & Economy
Math games and classroom store.
Teaching Tools & Technologies
Smartboards, laptops, books with CDs, accessories for iPODs used at listening centers, digital cameras, and stability disks. PTO provides school supplies for families who are unable to afford them.
Assemblies & Other Events
Assemblies, book author visits, supplies for Pioneer Day workshops, and Salary for co-director of NKE school musical.
Kindergarten Books
All new kindergarteners receive a free book, donated by the PTO, to welcome them to school.
Field Trip Chaperones *
PTO will cover the admissions fee for parents chaperoning during class field trips.

PTO Sponsored Events

Art Fair
Students can display their artwork and present choral, instrumental, and dance performances. Attendants also enjoy hands-on projects and demonstrations.
Science Fair
Future scientists present their science project for evaluation by UW-Madison scientists. Students also participate with hands-on activities and enjoy demonstrations from several UW-Madison departments.
Operation Joy
An annual toy and coat drive for families in need.
Family Fun Night
It is a night of entertainment for families to celebrate the end of the school year. Children enjoy inflatable houses, games, face painting, magic, and more.
NINA Fun Run
All proceeds from this run are used by Joining Forces for Families social worker, Joe Sullivan. He assists families in the district with financial struggles.
Staff Appreciation
The PTO provides dinner for teachers during Parent Teacher Conferences. During Staff Appreciation Week in May, the PTO pampers teachers, staff, bus drivers, etc. with meals and small gifts as a way to say thank you to everyone who plays a role in the education of our children.
Safety Camp
The PTO contributes $1500 a year to “Safety Camp” run by the Oregon Police Department. Approximately 120 second and third graders attend the camp each June, where they learn how to hand situations such as gun, bike, and water safety.
Movie Night
Families enjoy popcorn and newly released movies in one of the schools’ gymnasium.
